What is interactive video, and why does it actually measure learning?
The difference between a watched video and a learned one, and how to measure it with the right question at the right moment.
When you publish a training video, most platforms record one thing: whether it played. Interactive video changes that.
The problem with ordinary video
A learner can open the video, switch tabs and drag the progress bar to the end. Your report says "completed", yet nothing was learned.
What interactive video does
- Questions at the right moment: the video pauses and checks understanding.
- Remediation jump-back: a wrong answer sends the learner back to the explanation.
- Seek lock: unwatched parts cannot be skipped.
- Viewing analytics: drop-off curves and heatmaps show where the video fails.
Three golden rules for questions
- One interaction every 2 to 4 minutes.
- Ask about concepts, not trivia.
- Write specific feedback for each wrong option.
